Townsville

HECS Band 1

26 hours lectures, 13 hours tutorials. Semester 2.

Staff:

Dr S Albanus.

Design Narrative integrates with GA1130 :03 Design Fundamentals in providing students with the theoretical underpinning necessary to create an awareness of task demands, a coherent and disciplined body of theoretical and practical skills. Students will examine the way in which societal influences have changed the culture of design with references to the aesthetics of communication, fashion, architecture, food and leisure activities. This will lead to a familiarity with a range of conceptual and analytical methodologies.

Learning Objectives:

gain an understanding of the four main elements of design: materials, processes, formal concepts and fulfilling specific purposes;

gain an awareness of great moments of design, eg cathedrals, palaces etc that symbolise not only the principle of order, but also its societal values;

gain the ability to utilise a range of media to produce effective presentations.

Assessment by tutorial attendance and participation (25%); journal/practical work book (25%); one major practical project (30%); proposal (20%).
