Pixel Design

Available only to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Communication Design.

This subject will examine the input, manipulation and integration of pixel based resources in the communication design industry. The development of images for use in both commercial printing and multimedia applications will be extensively examined. Methods of image generation will be examined with special emphasis on file resolution, colour spaces and manipulation techniques being discussed. Students will use these techniques to produce a number of practical projects for assessment.

Learning Objectives:

have an understanding of the integral differences between bitmap and vector images;

be capable of inputing images from a number of devices;

have attained a basic understanding of the Adobe Photoshop working environment;

be able to examine image composition and industry based techniques for image manipulation;

gain an appreciation of the importance of image resolution and its relevance to final image usage and output.

Assessment by end-of-semester examination (10%); other examinations (20%); presentations (10%); journal/practical work book (10%); three minor practical projects (10% each) (30%); one major practical project (20%).
