Students read closely one example of 18th century French prose and a selection of 19th century French poetry.

Learning Objectives:

to make students aware of literary movements, genres, themes and critical theories through close analysis of a sample of French novels, short stories, tales, plays and poetic works.

Assessment by end-of-semester examination (60%); essays (40%).
