Terrestrial Resource Management

20 hours lectures, 6 hours tutorials, 24 hours field work, 24 hours workshops. Semester 1.

Principles and concepts in terrestrial resource management including detailed studies of selected methods and problems; management of natural environments including ecological, economic and social aspects; land capability, land degradation, sustainability; protected area management and conservation issues.

Learning Objectives:

develop comprehension and appreciation of human-land relationships, especially links with natural resources and ecological processes;

develop conceptual frameworks for analysis and evaluation;

have an awareness and understanding of the major issues in the conservation of biodiversity and the development of ecologically sustainable management.

Assessment by examination (50%); essay (30%); fieldwork or project (20%).
