Introduction to Environmental Science

Townsville, Cairns

39 hours lectures, 22 hours tutorials, 4 hours field work. Semester 2.

An overview of current global and regional environmental problems; an examination of the interaction between natural processes and the human activities which circumscribe such issues and which constrain their amelioration; a review of current areas of knowledge and ignorance concerning environmental processes. Particular attention will be paid to tropical examples.

Learning Objectives:

to promote an understanding of the causes and complexity of major global and regional environmental problems;

to provide practice in group problem solving in an environmental context;

to integrate knowledge and values within the context of environmental issues;

to develop oral and written communication skills.

Assessment by examination (50%); tutorials, lecture, tests, essay etc (50%).
