English 4 Honours Thesis

Topic to be approved by the Head of School.

Learning Objectives:

An English Honours thesis should demonstrate the following qualities:

clarity of concept and originality of research project;

appropriate and adequate research;

monograph-style organisation, including introduction, chapter division and conclusion;

clarity, subtlety and coherence of argument;

evidence of understanding of and engagement with contemporary or other theoretical approaches relevant to the topic, and/or of the hermeneutic in which the argument of the thesis is conducted;

technical correctness, including grammar, spelling, syntax, presentation of references and bibliographical data;

a fluent and readable style and a scholarly manner and tone.

Assessment by completed thesis to be submitted by the end of September (100%).
