Operations and Quality Management

HECS Band 2

26 hours lectures, 13 hours tutorials. Two week vacation block mode. Semester 1 or 2.

Available to students enrolled in the Master of Engineering Management course and to other students at the discretion of the Head of School of Engineering.

Plant location and facilities layout; materials requirements planning and inventory management; production scheduling; emerging production technologies; quality management and statistical quality control; applications.

Learning Objectives:

to learn the tools and techniques of operations and production planning and management;

to appreciate the importance of factors crucial to decisions on location and layout;

to become familiar with the emerging computer-based technologies in production;

to understand the principles of correctly managing production systems;

success factors in the design and management of quality systems.

On-course assessment including seminar (20%); assignments (40%); project reports (40%).
