Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Townsville, Cairns

HECS Band 2

39 hours lectures, 39 hours tutorials, demonstrations and practicals, site visits and seminars. Semester 2.

Introduction to electrical signals and dc circuit theory. Electrical units and calculations used to apply them. Energy transformations in electric circuits containing resistors, capacitors and inductors. Theory and applications of ideal operational amplifiers. Ideal transformers.

Learning Objectives:

A student completing this subject will have an appreciation of the fundamental concepts of electrical engineering and the capability to:

describe the relationships between voltage and current in the components of a circuit and be able to discuss and apply electrical principles in typical applications;

analyse simple circuits operating under transitional and steady-state dc conditions;

design simple circuits to meet engineering specifications.

Assessment by examination (50%-70%); on-course assessment (30%-50%).
