Available to all Masters students, predominantly those enrolled in the Master of Education.

This subject considers issues relating to the role of teachers and schools in community education and development. Topics include: concepts and models of community education and its connections with community development; skills of community education and development, including leadership, personal and community visioning, educating for community action; and the place of participant action research in community education and change.

Learning Objectives:

a broad theoretical knowledge of community education and the role of the school in community development;

the practical skills needed to play a role in community education, leadership and development initiatives;

an appreciation of the contexts (school and community) in which those initiatives take place.

Assessment by essay (25%); teletutorial/essay (35%); case study/report (40%).
