30 hours seminars, readings and two chat sessions. January/February block mode.

Available ONLY to students enrolled in the Master of Teaching.

This subject introduces a range of theoretical approaches to the study of the practices of education with a particular focus on teachers' work. Topics include inequities and forms of justice in Australian education in the light of challenges teachers face; literacies, discourse and power in education in relation to individual and cultural differences, child and adolescent development.

Learning Objectives:

examine relationships among school contexts, educational policies/philosophies and teachers' work;

examine the relations among literacies, discourses and power in educational settings particularly as they relate to inequities and forms of justice;

examine theories of learning, childhood and adolescence and their educational implications.

Assessment by presentations with defence (60%); assignments (40%).
