This subject introduces the student to a variety of approaches to researching early childhood education. It requires the student to closely examine issues such as how knowledge is produced and whose knowledge is given authority. Key topics include: the nature of evidence and knowledge that informs our professional practices; outcomes associated with early childhood education; gender and early childhood education and links between research and practice.

Learning Objectives:

explore how evidence and knowledge are produced through a variety of research approaches;

critically evaluate research on outcomes associated with early childhood education;

critically evaluate research on gender and early childhood;

reflect on professional practices and their links with research.

Assessment by assignment 1 (40%); assignment 2 (60%).
