Available to students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Education (Tertiary Teaching) or other higher degree.

Subject content will include: comparisons of procedures at different universities; data on postgraduate enrolments and completion rates; information on effective supervision strategies; comparisons of discipline differences in management of postgraduate study; analysis of text and information on effective thesis-writing; consideration of issues of gender and culture in the supervisor/student relationship; consideration of the ethics of postgraduate supervision; information on the financing and politics of postgraduate study in Australia; consideration of appropriate standards for different levels of research degrees and analysis of typical examiners' reports.

Learning Objectives:

complete a program of high quality research work in an efficient, creative and timely fashion;

gain knowledge and understanding of research data and supervision practices;

develop interpersonal and communication skills;

develop strategies to define a topic, execute a project and write a competent thesis.

Assessment is usually by one piece of assessment.
