Graduate Final Professional Experience

Townsville, Cairns

15 hours lectures, 125 hours practicum, 75 hours of other professional experience (consisting of 25 hours professional orientation week and 50 hours of community service). Semester 1 and 2.

Available to students enrolled in the Graduate Bachelor of Education.

This subject is part of the developmental curriculum for professional experience within the Graduate Bachelor of Education program. Students will complete one week of professional orientation which may include engaging in group visits to education settings and seminars with education leaders. In addition, students will be allocated a school and attend for 25 allocated days, completing a range of activities to develop an understanding of the complexities of teachers' roles and the changes that occur over the school semester. As a culminating experience, students will plan, teach and evaluate a full-time three week continuous block of teaching. Also, students will develop an understanding of the important link between the work of educators and a range of community services.

Learning Objectives:

contribute too an education related community service;

plan, teach, evaluate a minimum three week continuous full-time equivalent block across all F/KLAs in Early Childhood and Primary, and full-time equivalent across both curriculum areas and including junior and senior in Secondary;

participate ethically in a range of activities within a school setting;

identify, analyse and support a range of learner differences in a school setting;

use a repertoire of language and literacy skills appropriate to the teaching profession.

Completion of performance based assessment and required attendance (100%).
