Advanced Techniques in Mining and Exploration Geology

90 hours lectures, 10 hours practicals, 10 hours workshops/seminars. April block mode.

Available to students enrolled in MAppSc Mining & Exploration Geology, National Geoscience Masters in Economic Geology and Graduate Diploma of Science in Economic Geology.

The analysis of orebody geometry and architecture based on surface and subsurface mapping; drill core data; controlling rock structures; ore associations and alteration patterns. Prospectivity analysis relevant to exploration.

Learning Objectives:

to develop enabling skills to interpret geological data relevant to the geometry, potential distribution, location and nature of mineable mineralisation;

to develop an understanding of the challenges and outcomes of mining analysis;

to develop skills to optimise exploration and mining programs using geological data.

Assessment by seminar presentation (25%); seminar extended report (25%); in-course assessment (50%).
