Literature Review and Research Proposal

Available to students enrolled in BInfTech(Hons), BSc(Hons) (Computer Science), MInfTech (Research), MInfTech (Research and Development), MSc by Research, Doctor of Philosophy.

Students undertake a literature review of a nominated area of research and develop a research project proposal, on topics specified by SIT staff. Students are taught how to critically analyse papers for relevance and significance and to identify potential research projects. They do a presentation and seminar on their literature review and on their research proposal and submit written reports on both.

Learning Objectives:

appreciation of scientific research reporting methods;

ability to determine from research papers relevance, significance and opportunities for further research;

ability to conduct a literature review of scientific research;

ability to draft a research proposal.

Assessment by assignments (70%); presentations (30%).
