The study of the methodology of scientific research and the design, formulation and implementation of a research project. Topics covered will include perspectives for development of knowledge; project planning and design; writing a research proposal and research report; research methodologies.

Learning Objectives:

describe different philosophical perspectives for the development of scientific knowledge;

describe the nature of research and the research process;

develop researchable questions;

choose between alternative research methods for a given research project;

write a research proposal;

evaluate and criticise research within and outside the student's discipline.

Assessment by seminar questions (30%); article review (10%); oral and written presentation of research proposal (60%).
