Selected aspects of the law of property (including intellectual property), bailment, agency, sale of goods, consumer protection, insurance, negotiable instruments and debt recovery.

Learning Objectives:

describe selected aspects of the law of property;

identify the elements and the legal significance of bailment;

explain the elements and the operation of the law of agency;

describe the sale of goods transaction and the operation of Australian consumer protection legislation;

describe the bank-customer relationship and the use of negotiable instruments in modern commerce;

explain the mechanisms whereby debtors become bankrupt and the consequences of bankruptcy.

Assessment by written on-course tests (40%); final examination (60%). (Subject to variation.)
