Accounting for Decision Making

Available to level 1 non-accounting students.

This subject will emphasise the application and interpretation of accounting information for decision making and the underlying concepts, rather than on the collection of data and procedural aspects of accounting. It will focus on the following three areas: understanding of accounting reports; analysis of accounting information and use of accounting information in various business decisions.

Learning Objectives:

demonstrate a general understanding of the principles governing the preparation of accounting information;

demonstrate a basic understanding of how accounting information can be used in management decision making;

demonstrate a basic understanding of how financial information can be analysed using financial reports;

demonstrate an understanding of some of the basic principles of business finance.

Assessment by tutorials (10%); mid-semester test (20%); assignment (15%); end-of-semester examination (55%).
