Available to all students with 12 units of level 1 subjects. This subject, together with other CN and EL subjects, can form part of a major in English. The lecturer in this subject should be consulted for further details.

Realism in the cinema as exemplified by Italian neo-realism, the French New Wave and other world cinema, including Australian cinema, between the 1930s and the present.

Learning Objectives:

to elucidate the idea of realism in the cinema;

to develop an awareness of filmic techniques for transmitting meaning.

Assessment by three assignments (50%); class participation (20%); end-of-semester examination (30%).
