The portrayal of Australia outside its cities, by a study of the land and its inhabitants as shown in feature films made about Australia, both by Australians and others.
Learning Objectives:
to demonstrate and give experience in a thematic study of an aspect of cinema;
to gain insights into the cinema's reflecting and shaping aspects of the Australian identity;
to develop an awareness of filmic techniques for transmitting meaning.
Assessment by two assignments (50%); class participation (20%); end-of-semester examination (30%).
