To succeed, an organisation must create and sustain competitive advantage and understand the environment within which it operates. It deals with identifying and analysing past and current strategies and with formulating and implementing new integrated ones. It is the capstone subject for the MBA.

Learning Objectives:

using the skills acquired in earlier core subjects, the subject develops cross-functional and holistic thinking and the ability to recognise patterns of strategy under conditions of incomplete and imperfect information;

understand strategy identification and evaluation, industry and competitor analysis, strategic alliances and joint ventures, innovation in multi-divisional organisations, globalisation, diversification strategy and managing multibusiness organisations;

understand the challenge of formulating effective competitive strategy that balances the opportunities and risks associated with dynamic and uncertain changes in industry attractiveness and competitive position.

Assessment to be advised by first week of lectures.
