Plant Diversity: from Reef to Rainforest

This subject introduces students to the diversity of plants found in the tropics, including aspects of their structure, reproduction, distribution, classification and evolution.

Learning Objectives:

to gain an appreciation of the diversity of plants and their evolutionary relationships;

to gain an understanding of the structure and function of plants;

to develop basic laboratory skills and to critically observe and interpret a range of plant materials;

to learn how to use keys for identifying plants.

Assessment by theory examination (50%); practical examination (30%); practical book (10%); tutorials (5%); class test (5%).
