Advanced Astronomy Topic A

Semester 1 (February to May) and Semester 2 (September to December).
This subject is delivered via the Internet using Blackboard through Learn JCU. Each week the student will be given an appropriate mixture of lecture material, assignment material, readings and self learning. Assessment will be possibly on a week-by-week basis and there will be a final "open-book" examination or project report.
The subject involves content and student workoad equivalent to other subjects in the program.

Available only to students enrolled in the Master of Astronomy.

This subject will allow students to study a topic not yet specified, and can thus be tailored to the special needs of the student, and can exploit opportunities in the discipline. This is a 6 unit subject that will also allow flexibility in the scheduling of the Doctor of Astronomy degree program. As there is no specified content for this subject the nature of the subject is to be agreed with the Centre for Astronomy, School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at JCU.

learn to fully utilise the Internet for learning and research;

learn the vocabulary of science and the thinking processes of scientists;

learn high level communication skills.

Assessment by three essays (10% each) (30%); three assignments (10% each) (30%); end-of-semester examination (open book) (40%).
