Anthropological Theory
Dr D Miles (Townsville campus);
Dr D Mitchell (Cairns campus).
This subject provides a broad overview of major theoretical approaches in social and cultural anthropology and establishes the foundation for higher studies in the discipline. The relationship between anthropology and such intellectual currents as modernism and post-modernism, structuralism and post-structuralism, feminist and postcolonial theory are examined from the perspective of a history of key debates. The subject also involves the close reading of significant ethnographic works by anthropologists in both the past and the present.
