Social Policy Analysis

External HECS Band 1

Semester 1 and 2.

This subject provides a series of frameworks and analytical tools for understanding the social policy-making process, including formulation, implementation and evaluation. Case studies and cross-national comparisons are used to develop a critical understanding of differing responses to social policy issues and problems.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop a critical understanding of the social policy-making process;
  2. develop critical skills in understanding and interpreting policy formulation, implementation and evaluation processes;
  3. develop an appreciation of the link between policy processes and the organisational and practice context.

Assessment by a social policy analysis exercise (50%); reflective journal (50%).
