Interpersonal Practice

52 hours workshops/seminars. Semester 1.

Introduction to practice skills of intervention with, and between, individuals. This includes skills of active listening, brokerage, mediation and advocacy.

Learning Objectives:

  1. appropriate usage of the microskills of communication to enhance interpersonal communication;
  2. brokerage of individuals access to appropriate services;
  3. mediation of disputes between persons;
  4. advocacy of clients rights appropriate to the goals of social justice and the professional codes of ethics;
  5. critical usage of skills across cultures, with a particular focus on Indigenous ways of interpersonal engagement.

Assessment by videotape presentation demonstrating applied skills usage (50%); written assignments (50%).
