Interpersonal Practice

Introduction to practice skills of intervention with, and between, individuals. This includes skills of active listening, brokerage, mediation and advocacy.
Learning Objectives:
- appropriate usage of the microskills of communication to enhance interpersonal communication;
- brokerage of individuals access to appropriate services;
- mediation of disputes between persons;
- advocacy of clients rights appropriate to the goals of social justice and the professional codes of ethics;
- critical usage of skills across cultures, with a particular focus on Indigenous ways of interpersonal engagement.
Assessment by videotape presentation demonstrating applied skills usage (50%); written assignments (50%).
