Painting 3

156 hours practicals, 78 hours independent project work. Full year.

Available to Bachelor of Visual Arts students.

Students will further develop their conceptual skills and personal approach to subject and medium in the studio major area of painting. Emphasis will be on development of personal direction through a number of set projects as well as individual work proposals outlining aims, method of research and execution, including safe working practices. Students will participate in regular class discussions and group critiques of practical work as well as undertaking research necessary to their direction.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop strategies for creative decision-making;
  2. to explore specific issues in a personal manner and to commence working with a personal vision;
  3. to develop creative output to an exhibition level through personal exploration and research;
  4. to develop appropriate and on-going research strategies and safe work practices for the practising artist;
  5. to engage in self-reflective and critical inquiry.

Assessment by two set projects (5% each); practical work as per individual contract Semester 1 (30%), Semester 2 (50%); research journal/visual diary (10%).
