Environment and Art

This subject explores the relationship between art and the social and cultural environment in which it arises. It investigates early colonial Australian art, aspects of Australian Aboriginal art and the environmental art movement by focusing on contemporary art practices in the Asia Pacific region and Queensland.

It comprises a weekly lecture and seminar program as well as the development of an individual practical project, based on theoretical research.

Learning Objectives:

  1. gain an increased awareness of the environment and self in relation to environmental issues and topics;
  2. gain an introductory knowledge of art practice in the Asia Pacific Region, Australia and Queensland.

Assessment by interlocking research reports (30%); seminar presentation (20%); research/practical project (50%).
