Effective Drawing

Townsville, Cairns HECS Band 1

39 hours practicals. Semester 2.

Available to all students except BVA students. This is a level 1 Bachelor of Education subject for intending early childhood/primary teachers undertaking a major/sub-major in art.

This subject is specifically designed for students who need fundamental drawing skills. Students studying biological, earth or medical sciences, anthropology, archaeology, tourism, communications, or any student who needs to pictorially record a subject, will find this subject useful.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to acquire skills in sight-size measuring of proportions;
  2. to demonstrate understanding of the principles of linear and aerial perspective;
  3. to demonstrate understanding of the principles underlying shadows and reflections;
  4. to demonstrate understanding of spatial intervals;
  5. to understand and to be competent in applying the conventions of composition;
  6. to acquire skills in tonal rendering;
  7. to explore and to be competent in using a range of drawing mediums.

Assessment will be progressive comprising four prescribed folios of drawings (20% each); visual diary (20%).
