Animal Nutrition

36 hours seminars. Semester 2.

Available to graduates with a degree in Veterinary Science or Agricultural Science (or equivalent).

The subject will cover in detail current views on the digestive processes relating to proteins and carbohydrates and the pattern of utilisation of absorbed amino acids, sugars and fatty acids in animals. The utilisation of forages by herbivores and selected methodologies in nutritional research will also be covered.

Learning Objectives:

  1. understand better currently important issues in animal nutrition and in methodologies used in nutritional research;
  2. be able to efficiently gather relevant published research on selected nutritional topics, critically evaluate these and to communicate summation of the topics in writing and in seminars in a clear and concise manner.

Assessment by assignments (50%); seminars (50%).
