Conference and Events Management

26 hours lectures, 12 hours practicals. Semester 2. For Townsville and Cairns students lectures will be delivered in block mode in June/July in Townsville and practicals conducted on both campuses in Semester 2.

This subject will provide students with an overview of the growing tourism sector referred to as MICE (Meetings, Incentive Tours, Conferences and Events). Topics will include the planning, financing and operational aspects of developing and managing special events and functions. Students will apply procedures learnt to several events including the annual Tourism Student Research Conference.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to understand the role of MICE in tourism business;
  2. to understand operational aspects of events and conferences;
  3. to develop team building and leadership skills.
