Practical Theatre Studies

20 hours. Semester 2.
Throughout the subject, theory is combined with practice in a physical exploration of the performance properties of texts. Students will also undertake studies in theatre criticism and review writing. Special projects and grant writing are also content areas.
Learning Objectives:
- to demonstrate an understanding of selected playwrights within an historical/contemporary context;
- to apply skills in the analysis and interpretation of selected texts as frameworks for performance;
- to translate intellectual discovery into stage action by exploring physical ways of dealing with text.
Assessment by seminar participation (15%); two essays (50%); project (20%); review (15%).
