Australian Theatre 1

20 hours workshops. Semester 1.

Practical studies of plays and the subsequent realisation of the performance text are the content areas. Throughout the subject, theory is combined with practice in a physical exploration of the performance properties of texts. Analysis of selected Australian plays will be developed in workshop and seminar sessions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to demonstrate an understanding of selected playwrights within an historical/contemporary context;
  2. to apply skills in the analysis and interpretation of selected texts as blueprints for performance;
  3. to translate intellectual discovery into stage action by exploring physical ways of dealing with text.

Assessment by weekly tasks (20%); two seminar projects of 20% (40%); essay (2,000 words) (40%).
