Theatre Practice 1C

Contact hours will vary according to the module chosen up to a maximum of 120 hours workshops. Semester 2.

Available to level 1 BT students only.

Students enrolling in this subject will undertake modules in either Acting or Production.

Acting

Study topic — Improvisation — comprises acting and responding, beginning and developing improvisation, concentration and spontaneity, verbal improvisation, a character in improvisation, interaction in improvisation, building a verbal performance from improvisation.

Production

Technical production students choose from modules covering such areas as: assistant stage management; lighting for theatre; sound for theatre; props and set construction; wardrobe management and all design elements. Students actively engage as part of specific teams to meet the technical support needs of public performance.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to enable students to identify, obtain and employ mastery of core skills necessary to professional practice.
  2. to enable students to identify, obtain and employ mastery of fundamental key competencies necessary for the development of soundscape for theatrical productions.

Assessment by:

Acting

The ability to demonstrate the above skills in rehearsal process (five key elements of rehearsal process) (45%); the ability to apply these skills to a performance (five key elements of performance skills) (45%); creative journal (1000 words) (10%).

Production

One production report (50%); continuous assessment of practical skills (50%).
