History of World Theatre 1B

10 hours lectures, 5 hours workshops. Semester 2.

In this subject students will study the development of the Western Theatre during the 19th and 20th centuries. Areas of inquiry will include the nature of theatre; the role of the playwright and the development of drama; the changes and development of the theatre space and design; appearance of a director, the development of the actor’s technique and the evolution of the actor-spectator relationship.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to enable students to identify, obtain and employ mastery of fundamental key competencies necessary to professional practice.

Assessment by seminar participation (20%); two multiple-choice examinations (40%); essay 1 (20%); essay 2 (20%).
