Theatre Practice 1B

Contact hours will vary according to the module chosen up to a maximum of 120 hours workshops. Semester 1.

Available to level 1 BT students only.

Students enrolling in this subject will undertake either Acting or Production modules.

Acting

Study topic — Improvisation — comprises acting and responding, beginning and developing improvisation, concentration and spontaneity, non-verbal improvisation, group improvisation, building a performance from improvisation.

Production

Technical production students will be introduced to prop design and prop making; an introduction to set design through model making and drafting; an introduction to set construction and the use of appropriate workshop tools and machinery; an introduction to the history of theatrical design.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to enable students to identify, obtain and employ mastery of fundamental key competencies necessary to professional practice.
  2. to enable students to identify, obtain and employ mastery of core skills necessary for participation in professional theatre.

Assessment by:

Acting

The ability to demonstrate the above skills in rehearsal process (five key elements of rehearsal process) (45%); the ability to apply these skills to a performance (five key elements of performance skills) (45%); creative journal (1000 words) (10%).

Production

Preparation and participation in practicals (25%); continuous practical skills tests related to ongoing projects (50%); written examination (25%).
