Exercise Testing and Prescription for Sports Performance

26 hours lectures, 39 hours practicals. Semester 2.

Available to level 3 sport and exercise science students, physical education students and other students.

Adaptations to training. Training theories and principles. Methods used to develop strength, speed, power an endurance. Periodisation. Tapering and peaking. Implementation of strategies to prevent sports injury and overtraining. The design and implementation of training schedules for specific populations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to describe the exercise testing and prescription procedures for sports performance;
  2. to understand the principles of periodisation training for sport performance;
  3. to understand procedures used in conditioning a sporting team.

Assessment by a tutorial presentation (30%); practical examination (20%); final examination 50%).
