Introduction to Fitness and Exercise Biology

39 hours lectures, 26 hours practicals. Semester 1.

Introduction to sport and exercise science: basic concepts of functional anatomy, mechanics of human motion, physiology of exercise, fitness assessment (health screening, anthropometry, strength, power, flexibility and endurance), fitness programming, group exercise.

Learning Objectives:

  1. describe the biophysical foundations of human physical activity;
  2. understand basic procedures for assessing physical fitness and programming exercise.

Assessment by mid-semester examination (30%); on-course assignments (20%); final examination (50%).
