Geropsychology Practicum

Townsville HECS Band 1

500 hours supervised practicum. Full year. Limited Attendance.

Available to students enrolled in DPsych (Clinical Geropsychology).

Staff: Assoc. Professor E Helmes.

This subject forms the practical placement for the Doctor of Psychology course. The placement provides students with the opportunity to refine and develop their skills in association with a skilled field supervisor. It also includes attendance at clinic and professional seminars.

Learning Objectives:

  1. work in a variety of practical settings to develop applied clinical skills and work practices and become familiar with professional networks within which psychologists are required to operate;
  2. exposure to different approaches to problems, therapy and work environments to aid professional development and adaptability to future work situations.

Assessment by a folio representing work completed during the practicum (pass/fail) and by a pass/fail rating of performance by the field supervisor during the practicum.
