Practicum 3

Townsville HECS Band 1

350 hours supervised practice. Semester 1 or 2, Limited Attendance.

Available to MPsych or DPsych students.

This subject takes the form of a practical placement in an appropriate community setting. Students will work under the supervision of appropriate field supervisors. The placement gives students the opportunity to work in different settings and to increase their skills in working with clients and in their interactions with other professionals and members of the community. Attendance at the professional issues seminars is expected.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop clinical skills under supervision of an experienced practitioner;
  2. to act in a professional manner, meet the requirements of a work contract and associated responsibilities;
  3. to develop further independence and responsibility as a practising clinical and health psychologist;
  4. to gain understanding of the demands made by and the functioning of different agencies and the range of duties required of a practising psychologist, including non-clinical responsibilities.

Assessment by completion of a folio of work experience (pass/fail); pass/fail rating on performance in the placement by the supervisor.
