Practicum 1

300 hours supervised practice. Semester 1 or 2, Limited Attendance.
Available to MPsych or DPsych students.
Staff: Assoc. Professor E Helmes and other professional staff.
This subject takes the form of a practical placement in the University Psychology Clinic. Students will work in the clinic under the close supervision of appropriate staff or field supervisor. There will also be weekly 1.5 hour seminars: these will consist of discussions on specific issues relevant to the professional psychologist (e.g. ethics, legal issues, quality assurance etc) and case presentations.
Learning Objectives:
- to develop clinical skills under the guidance of a supervisor;
- to act in a professional manner, meet the requirements of a work contract and associated responsibilities;
- to develop a beginning level of independence and responsibility as a practising clinical and health psychologist.
Assessment by completion of a folio of work experience (pass/fail); pass/fail rating on performance in the placement by the supervisor.
