Physical Oceanography

This subject emphasises coastal processes; circulation, river outflow, sediment transport, eddy diffusion and wave mixing. Instrumentation: tide gauges, current meters, conductivity-temperature-depth probes, wave measurement. Surface waves.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to apply the basic concepts of fluid mechanics to practical physical oceanography problems.

Assessment by a three-hour examination and assignments.
