Topics include considerations of practice; individuals and families encountering mental health services; promoting mental health; cultural sensitivity – transcultural mental health; crisis intervention and emergency triage; physical treatment options – psychopharmacology; physical treatment options – electroconvulsive therapy; children and adolescents with mental health issues; mental health care in an ageing society; forensic mental health care.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop skills providing support to individuals with a mental illness and their carers in a range of general and specialist mental health treatment and support services;
  2. recognise and utilise the expertise of individuals with mental illness and their carers in mental illness recovery and prevention.

Assessment by assignments, clinical evaluation and tutorial participation.
