Midwifery Practice 3

200 hours clinical placement. Limited Attendance. Semester 1. A 4-day residential learning school at commencement of Semester 1.
Modular learning is applied to midwifery issues related to the role of the midwife during perinatal challenges in pregnancy, birth and the puerperium. The role of the midwife during perinatal challenges and the neonate is included.
Learning Objectives:
- analyse the effects of pre-gestational and pregnancy induced conditions to predict the likely consequences and/or outcomes of these and implement management according to professional practice;
- foster health promotion by the use of communication and professional skills to facilitate the woman, family and the multidisciplinary team in setting appropriate goals;
- recognise the interdependent role of the midwife by facilitating collaborative resource management;
- examine and develop strategies for working with families from culturally diverse backgrounds when faced with perinatal challenges.
On-course assessment (100%).
