Nursing Inquiry for Specialist Practice

External HECS Band 1

Semester 2.

This subject aims to introduce the registered nurse to professional nurse practice issues. As reflective nurse practitioners students will explore issues such as human responses to illness, ethico-legal issues in specialty nursing practice and assessing specialist nursing practice using competency standards. Students will be provided with the opportunity to apply knowledge gained to their area of specialist nursing practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. recognise and demonstrate the required abilities to be a reflective practitioner;
  2. describe communication practices which establish and maintain collaborative and constructive relationships with clients and colleagues in the intensive care unit;
  3. demonstrate an understanding of and application of ethico-legal principle to the student’s practice;
  4. engage in activities which enhance the student’s own and colleagues’ ongoing education and abilities as a specialist intensive care nurse.

Assessment by two assignments (40% and 60%).
