Primary Health Care

10 hours lectures, 20 hours tutorials. Semester 2.

Available to level 1 students enrolled in the BNSc.

This subject focuses on the principles of primary health care and health promotion within a global, international and national context.

Learning Objectives:

  1. describe the concepts of modern primary health care and apply them to a wide range of settings and groups;
  2. appreciate the importance of social and economic factors in the provision of appropriate health care;
  3. describe the principles of health promotion and outline strategies suitable for selected health issues in the communities;
  4. discuss the role of nurses, other health professionals and professionals from outside the health sector in health care planning and delivery within the primary health care framework;
  5. critically appraise the potential of primary health care in health care developments of the future.

On-course assessment and examination (100%).
