External HECS Band 3

Semester 1 or 2.

Available to students enrolled in Master of Rural and Remote Medicine program and staff of organisations that develop continuing medical education programs.

Staff: Assoc. Professor B Raasch.

The current focus of the health care system is to encourage health professionals to work together in a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care and to deliver and demonstrate quality care that improves the health of the population and responds to consumers’ needs. This primary health care approach requires education providers to base their programs on identified educational needs and adult learning principles which fit the learning styles and work situations of practising health professionals. This subject has been designed as a guide for education providers on how to introduce evidence-based continuing professional education and development to facilitate change and learning.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to provide an understanding of adult learning principles and learning styles in the context of the health professions;
  2. to provide participants with skills in planning, developing and marketing educational programs for health professionals;
  3. to develop strategies for identifying educational needs and evaluating educational programs;
  4. to gain an understanding of change management strategies and how to implement them.

Assessment by two assignments (50% each).
