Independent Project and Thesis

Townsville HECS Band 3

60 hours. Limited Attendance. Semester 1 and 2.

Available to any experienced medical practitioner currently working in a rural or remote location.

Staff: Dean of School of Medicine.

This subject allows rural medical practitioners to select a research topic of relevance to their practice, to critically review the literature, to collect and analyse relevant data and to present their findings in an academic format. Ideally, the topic will reflect an aspect of clinical rural and remote practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. prepare a review of the scientific literature on a chosen topic;
  2. demonstrate the ability to design and execute a research project, include data analysis and writing of a thesis.

Assessment by examination of the thesis by two examiners (100%).
