Integrated Clinical Practice *

40 hours lectures, 40 hours tutorials, 720 hours clinical experience. Full year.

Available to students enrolled in the MBBS degree.

This subject is designed as a single year-long subject which builds on years one to four of the MBBS and achieves a high level of integration between the basic medical sciences and the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for clinical health care. It will be spent in five eight-week rotations in various clinical health care settings.

Learning Objectives:

  1. ability to take a focused history from and conduct a focused examination on patients with a range of health problems;
  2. ability to generate a list of health care problems that patients may have;
  3. ability to determine and interpret an appropriate range of clinical investigations relevant to each patient problem;
  4. ability to generate a management plan in response to each patient problem;
  5. to further understand the personal and professional roles of medical practitioners.

Assessment by a summative concise written report for each clinical rotation (5% each); an oral presentation task (5%); an integrated written and multi-station oral examination (70%).
