Rural, Remote, Indigenous and Tropical Health

Available to level 2 students enrolled in the MBBS program.

This subject will introduce students to key concepts relating to rural, remote, tropical and Indigenous health, particularly in the Australian context. Students will develop an appreciation of the organisation of health care in these settings and the factors which impact on the health status of these communities.
Learning Objectives:
- describe the health care system and the health patterns of rural, remote, tropical and Indigenous communities in Australia and the factors which influence these;
- describe the approach to developing a high quality community based project;
- apply skills already developed in interpersonal communication, cross cultural issues, critical appraisal and population health in the context of rural, remote, tropical and Indigenous health.
Assessment by end-of-year integrated examination which will consist of a written component (67%) and a practical component (33%). Students will also be required to undertake informal on-course assessment tasks.
